Australians call them “runners.” The British know them as “trainers.” Americans refer to them as “sneakers.” Whatever you call them, these casual shoes are worn by billions of people around the world. Today, roughly 23 billion shoes are produced each year. So, how can we balance our love of sneakers with the need for sustainability and Planet protection? Here’s a TED-Ed short docu.

We are all entering a more purposeful era. Everything we design will be with a strong collective lens. As active participants in an ecosystem, this gives us a sense of belonging to a greater US.

New Times, New Ways is the TEDxBucharest endeavor to decode the future. New Times, New Ways is our brand NEW online series, infused with science, facts, inspiration, imagination, creativity and humanity. We will mindfully explore new paths in how we connect, how we contribute, how we innovate.

Host of the first NTNW online event: Andrei Dinu, Licensee TEDxBucharest
Where: Zoom (registrations required for special live interactions happening online – limited seats available)
When: May 6th, 2020, 3 PM to 6 PM
Who: 4 speakers (including a guest star speaker), live Q&A, breaks & special live interactions
Tickets and how to attend: we want to ensure your access is free of charge, but seats are limited for the online live experience. We’ll be back with registration info on Monday.

Extra perks: by joining our new TEDxBucharest online series, you contribute to a cause bigger than us. The “T” in TED stands for “Technology”, and in these difficult times we need it more than ever to shape New Ways for New Times. We decided to join forces and support our friends at Modulab in their endeavor to build and distribute the MUV autonomous robot. It is designed to clean and sterilize hospitals in Romania and help the medical staff fight the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Here are more details on how you can contribute: https://bit.ly/3bLGi4Z

See you online on the 6th of May, 2020.

Happy Easter, TEDsters! Now taking a throwback journey to last summer and Open Skies, Open Minds community event. While preparing to share these days safe in our homes, let’s enjoy some inspo from our last summer speakers.

Bianca shares her story of understanding how to better control her life, career and how that shapes her present initiatives. She is a fervent believer in people’s innate goodness and in their ability to move mountains, should they find their best place and do what they love. She’s enabling people to be their best by her practice in corporate HR, through coaching and most importantly through her work at Jobful, the first gamifying recruitment platform in Romania where applicants are more than just numbers and CVs but are people who have the chance to prove their abilities online. She’s also a passionate promoter of yoga and its practices, after having spent one month in India learning about what it means to be in perfect balance with all your thoughts and actions.

The past few years have been monumental for women. They took the lead in so many conversations and instances.
While we as an organization believe in a balanced exploration of ideas from both women and men, we though dedicate this Easter post to Cristiana Oprea and her awesome Open Skies, Open Minds talk: Breaking the Glass Ceiling for Women in Motor Sports. Cristiana’s dream of changing the world as an architect and urban planner gradually transformed into changing the world of motor sports and its views on women in this field, fueled by her newly found passion of competitive rally driving. In this talk, she explores the hardships of women rally drivers, lessons learned and how we can follow our dreams, as crazy as they may sound.

Happy Easter, TEDsters! Now taking a throwback journey to last summer and Open Skies, Open Minds community event. While preparing to share these days safe in our homes, let’s enjoy some inspo from our last summer speakers.

Staying safe at home means we get more time to travel with our imagination. From the coasts of the US to Ulan Bator, from the Baikal Lake to the Black Sea, Vlad Grigore tells the story of how adventures shape our lives. An avid explorer, Vlad takes us from crossing the frozen Baikal Lake on a motorcycle to rowing in the open ocean. In 2012, he founded Today You Can Do Anything, a community that helps others achieve their dreams and overcome their limits. He experienced The Mongol Rally – one of the Top 10 automotive endurance races and also crossed Baikal Lake on a motorcycle for 1000 km at -35 degrees C. He decided to bring the ocean rowing experience in Romania and created the Black Sea Rowing project, the only ocean rowing boat at the Black Sea.

2020 is the year for COUNTDOWN – a bold new initiative from TED to transform our cities and create a sustainable world for future generations. Countdown is TED’s most global activation yet! TEDxBucharest is joining as part of TED and TEDx extended family.

2 days of talks, collaboration and commitments that we can track together, learn from and build on. The goal isn’t chit-chat. The goal is action. From everyone.

? News: Unfortunately, due to coronavirus imposed flight restrictions, Flavia Richardson will not be able to join us anymore on our stage. We’re very sad to be in this situation, as Flavia had put a lot of work into her speech and was so excited to join us. Nevertheless, the situation is beyond her or our control. And we must all acknowledge, respect and understand this.

We’re so sad about this, but we’ll see her surely at our next events!
