Fearing change is not something you should feel ashamed of! Change is almost always scary and implies leaving a comfort zone you were…well, comfortable in! The social pressure of going through a change like it’s no big deal or even of initiating it is ruining all the fun of the process itself and we can change that, can’t we?
There’s no denying it helps you grow, it determines you to be more flexible, challenges and helps you find your strengths. But if not welcomed and assumed, change can be rough and even painful. What we – as human beings, regardless of our status, our profession or our beliefs, need to understand – is that most of the times change is not planned or even foreseen. The key is not to punish yourself for fearing it, but to try to understand it and eventually embrace it when it happens.
Things can’t and will not stay the same forever – that’s part of the world we live in. And we wouldn’t want it any other way. That’s why we need to work on developing the needed skills to always be able to land on our feet! And – believe it or not – this comes from the everyday little things. Challenge yourself as often as possible – to read a new book, to talk to a new person, to try a new type of food – whatever you like or need. Always try to understand your first impulses when under pressure and sometimes even try to fight them and to react differently. Speak up about your fears and insecurities and try to find their roots. And, maybe most important – help the ones in need and make sure you build your strong and supportive tribe. Change won’t be so scary when you’ll have your people by your side.
And where to grow your tribe better than at TEDxBucharest11? Especially since we’re all going to be there to embrace the Metamorphosis in all its beautiful and sometimes scary forms. So let’s not only be part of the change, or initiate it – let’s embrace it together and make your ideas heard on November 16th – 17th at New Aula Politehnica University!
